When News Confirms What You Want to Hear, Be Suspicious

This is a friendly reminder to everyone – liberal, conservative, and in between – that whenever you’re reading a news source you generally agree with and it’s giving you news that conforms cleanly with what you want, you should be suspicious.

Sadly, each side seems pretty good at spotting it when it’s the other side apparently feeding its audience a narrative but seems curiously less up to the feat when faced with a mirror.

We’re getting less and less information, more and more “activist journalism.” With less objective, fact-reporting sources, the best advice is to read widely. Yes, continue reading the publications you like and agree with. But start reading the ones you don’t.
